I remember as a kid we used to make waxed paper and crayon hearts. Then I saw them pop up on Pinterest, and decided to make them with the girls.
They really are simple to make, and both girls enjoyed watching the crayon shavings melt and mold. {And yes we had a little educational lesson tucked into this craft.}
You’ll need:
Wax Paper
Iron
String and Dowel to hang
Crayon Shavings*
*I started with a pencil sharperner and well, was a bit aggressive, breaking the crayon again and again.

So I moved to a grater. It was better and faster!
STEPS:
1. Place a cloth on your iron board, the crayons will bleed through and leave a mark, and place wax paper on top.
2. Scatter the crayon shavings on one half of wax paper and fold.
3. Place another cloth on top and pass heated iron over a couple times until shavings have melted.
If you don’t put a cloth on top you end up with the what’s on the left. We liked and used both. (Right side had cloth on top)
4. Let paper cool. Trace hearts. Cut out and attach.

no doubt my kids (all of them!) would heart this! It’s science-y enough for the boys and crafty enough for my girl…not to stereotype or anything–that just happens to be what they’re into. love the idea. I’ve never done these before. fun!

It was really fun to make. Julia loved watching the crayons melt and spread.
So cute! I forgot all about these but I use to make these as a kid too. Using the grater was genius too! I’m sure that saved a lot of time.
Btw, where do you buy that cute twine? I keep seeing it pictured on different blogs but I haven’t seen it in any stores…or maybe I am just missing it.
Hope you and the girls are doing well!

I forgot about them too, until Pinterest! The twine is from Pick Your Plum – there’s a sidebar ad/link to them on my blog. I tend to get a few things from them a year. I like their stuff.
Very cute!
