I once read a riddle that asked,
What is the world’s biggest room?
The answer: Room for improvement.
That riddle, and answer, have always stuck with me, and helped me decide on my word for 2013,
LEARN.
Because, just like there’s always room for improvement,
There’s always something to learn.
EVERY SINGLE DAY I feel like I learn something new such that, if I make a conscious effort this year to learn, I’ll discover more about me and my surroundings.
And so I vow to:
Learn about myself and tackle question number 4 from my favourite New Year’s article, {“Am I inhibited by a fear of failing? Just for a moment, pretend that failure is a triumph, not a shame. Now what would I reach for, what would I risk?”}
Learn to be in the moment more often.
Learn how to balance life better so that I don’t have anymore moments where I feel overwhelmed “trying to do it all” and lose it with my daughters and/or my Husband.
Learn to keep my eyes and ears open and to embrace, with grace and humility, whatever gets thrown my way.
And finally,
Learn about my Camera and get off of Auto! :)
What’s your 2013 word?

I so want to move from auto to manual too! I try but my pictures still look crappy!

I think it is about time for me. I’ve had this “fancy” camera for 1+ years!
Love the word you chose for this year! You’re right, there is always so much to learn.
I moved from auto to manual last Spring and, even though it was overwhelming at first, I’m so glad that I did it.

I’m looking forward to getting off Auto. Did you read a book? The manual? Take a class? I know I should just practice, practice, practice.
Great word choice! I’ve already chosen mine, but I love the idea of there always being more to learn, I might have to steal that for future years!

Steal away! :)
What a great word…I think we should all be prepared to keep learning…b/c that’s what living is all about!

Isn’t it? I love it.
What a great word (and picture)! The girls are getting so big! I think my word would be Optimism. A little goes a long way and it beats negativity any day of the week!
Thanks. I LOVE your word and reason for it!
I have never heard that riddle before but I will never forget it now. I love it! We can always do better. Sometimes I think my biggest problem is that I say yes to too much that I can’t do better anything. So, I’m focusing on doing well in the things that I want/need to say yes to…not that I’m guilted or pressured into saying yes to.

Wow, this is so true. Limiting and focusing on a few things will make me better too. (Rather than trying to do it all!)
What a great word and fab outlook. I am such a work in progress and many days feel as tho progress has not reared its head at all … so we will ‘learn’ together and ‘embrace’ it all xxx
btw, so glad you linked up – these posts are just the best for making one feel good about the year ahead.
