My Detox and Clean Eating {+Giveaway}

I did something I’ve heard others doing.

Last week, I finished a 10-day detox with Lisa Consiglio Ryan, from Whole Health Designs.

Please note: Lisa did not compensate me for this review, I just enjoyed the process and benefits of the detox, and wanted to share.

And, I’ve got to say, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. Or maybe I should say, I wasn’t as bad as I thought I would be. (I didn’t cheat!)

I signed up with Lisa after I read Shell’s (Things I Can’t Say) post about her detox and some twitter chatter with Missy from Literal Mom because it was something I wanted to do.

My goal was simple, I wanted to cleanse my system and learn some new tricks on how to incorporate “fresh food” (and definitely more greens) into my diet. Oh, and the weight loss that might occur was appealing since I still have a few post- pregnancy pounds to shed.

The first couple of days were the hardest. I craved my coffee, and just about anything else that passed under my nose. I also had some cramping, and was tired by 8:30 p.m.

BUT after that things changed.

I slept well at night.
My cravings subsided.
My energy increased during the day.
My skin “glowed”.
And I lost ~6 lbs.

I learned,
that it’s not so hard to eat healthy,
to snack better,
to drink more water,
to not give into cravings,
to SLOW down when eating, “savour the flavour”
and
spinach, pear, and almond milk make a nice smoothie. Seriously.

So what’s my next challenge?
Being accountable to ME and keeping up all the good eating I did.

Lisa provided great recipes like,

Leeks and Shiitake Mushrooms over Barley

and I’ll continue to use them, but I want even more healthy, clean recipes.

Since I’ve always been a fan of Clean Eating Magazine, I jumped when I saw they had out a special issue on Comfort Foods. In fact, I bought 2 copies and want to give one away.

So glad you had a great experience! I was so scared of those shakes- though I now have a banana spinach almond milk one about once or twice a week. :)

I love that Comfort Foods magazine, have gotten it before when I’m perusing B&N with a coffee. You might like a couple of cookbooks we have: Clean Food and Super Natural Cooking. Oh, and the Whole Foods Market cookbook has never let us down either.

I’ve done a 3 day cleanse but 10 days is scary! I found it hardest to feed my kids and myself at the same time; i.e, they were not willing to eat the same dinners so I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. It did make me more aware of healthy choices and I have incorporated that into my everyday life. I also still drinks shakes every morning for breakfast. I’m very intrigued by the almond milk, banana and spinach combo. May try that tomorrow!

I tried a detox a couple years back. I was only able to get half way through, but I would like to try again. I know people say you feel amazing after.

I’m so curious about this detox thing. I’m afraid I wouldn’t make it though! With all the running I do, I tend to need a lot of calories.
