Sometimes I like to think I get a glimpse of the future and see what my children will be like when they are older.
Over the Holiday Break, on a cold day I took the girls to the local indoor playground. Surprisingly there weren’t too many kids, just a few boys. I settled into my chair, and pulled out a magazine.
I glanced up to see if everything was okay and saw that Julia had taken Lauren’s hand and led her away from the boys. She had Lauren sit down.
“Wait here Sweetie,” I heard her say.
Then she marched back over to the big boys. ”Guys,” she said, hands on waist. “You need to be more careful, my sister is little and can’t be that rough.”
She went back to Lauren took her hand, and brought her back to the play area.
On the way home I was able to snap this photo.
Friends forever? I hope so.
I think so.

Oh my goodness, I love how she protected her! I just wrote about my girls, too, for tomorrow night.

Thanks Greta. I loved it too, and I love how she calls her Sweetie. Looking forward to reading your post!
Oh, how sweet. I did a siblings post for Memories Captured, but my girls aren’t at their sweetest, most loving these days. I still like to believe they’ll be best friends once they get past these rough years – and sometimes I catch them in a moment of being nice to each other and remember what it was like when they were younger :)

I’m not naive, I know these moments will come and go… I just hope there’s more than less of them!
ohmygoodness that is the sweetest memory! I love how her big sister instincts kick in. It melts my heart when I see my older son take care of his little brother like that. He gets so protective of him and I do hope that they are best friends forever.

Thanks Christine! It really is something to see your eldest protect your youngest, because deep down, through all the fighting and toy-taking, you know they care for each other and will be there for each other. And as a mother, that’s what I want.
Oh, how I love those moments when one of my older ones watches out for a younger sibling. (I have 3). They will fight like crazy when we are home, but out in the world. they are very protective of each other, and I hope they never lose it – and I hope your girls have that forever too. what a wonderful big sister!
I agree Ilene, I hope they NEVER lose it!
I hope they do stay friends forever. My girls are still close and they are both young adults now. Although it is now the youngest one that watches out for the oldest one. She is the one with the big heart that wants everything to be right for everyone. Enjoy this time.
I hope so too! I a try to foster a good relationship between them, but in the end it’s up to them!
oh, that has to make your heart SO happy. What BFFS. such a cool little bond that sibs have :) My sister and I fought like crazy when we were little, but now? we are raising our kids together and still live about 10 minutes apart. Close cousins :) Love the pic.

Me too Kimberly. I’ve seen her take care of Lauren a few times and I LOVE it.
I love seeing moments of sibling harmony with my boys. I have the same hope as you – that they will always be close. Love that story about how she stood up for her sister.
Thanks Kim!
My two girls have always been close too and now that they are older they both look out for each other. Moments like these are etched into every part of my heart. We are both so very fortunate to watch our girls grow up not only as sisters but friends as well.

I love that she put those boys in their place! Such sweet sisters for sure… :)
I do too. I had seen they were a little rough, but decided to let it be and see if my girls could work around it, or work it out themselves. Apparently they can :)
