Evolution of a Blogger {Yeah, me}

Amid all the viruses that ran rampant in our house last week I realized,

I’ve been blogging for a year – go me!

Where I’ve been, gone, and are going  in this blogging trip has been fun (and more different) than I imagined.

Here’s a look back at what I *thought* would be and what is.

Thought: I’ll set up a blog and my family and friends can read it.
Is:Yeah, my family and friends read it, but so do other people!

Thought: I’ll use Blogspot, it’s free and lots of people are on it.
Is: Why is Blogspot crashing again? I should look for another solution, maybe WordPress? Yes, Wordpress! And I love it.

Thought: I should probably set-up a Facebook Page, even if I only have a handful of likes.
Is: Woo hoo! People like me {thanks!} I have 100+ likes!

Thought: Uh-oh, this article says I need to do this/that/this/that, I’m doing it all wrong.
Is: Don’t panic, be true to yourself. Write what you know, enjoy what you do, it’ll be good.

Thought: I should comment on the blogs I read, all of them.
Is: I’d love to coment on all blogs I read, but don’t and this way I read a lot more.

Thought: I’ll only be on computer for about an hour a day.
Is:  How does 2+ hours pass so quickly?

Thought: I need to post every day.
Is:
Life is busy. Posting only 2, or 3x a week is fine. And taking a week off a month is fine.

Thought: I’ll be stumbling through the learning process all on my own.
Is:  There are some awesome helpful people out there! I’d love to name you, but if I started, I’d inadvertantly forget someone and I don’t want to!

Yes, what a long strange trip it’s been.

And I’m loving it.

How about you? Is your blogging trip different than what you thought?

Congratulations on your blogging anniversary. I think you captured the most important thing most of us learned in that first year — be true to you! There is so much advice out there and you can make yourself crazy trying to follow it. If it doesn’t feel like a natural fit, it’s not for you.

So true, what we think/plan for vs. reality. I’d have to say, I’m glad I started with WordPress (and thank goodness the person pushing me forward made me go self-hosted!). Happy anniversary and here’s to many more celebrations; just stopped by from SITS on Saturday.

    Visting from SITS!

Happy Blogiversary! I agree with all your “Thoughts/Is”es. I started the same way, just wanting to keep friends and family updated on our daily lives… but blogging (and my blog) has turned into so much more!

Congratulations on your anniversary! Blogging consistently is difficult. I had a blog for 2 years and just got so busy with family that I couldn’t keep it up the way I wanted to. I took some time off and started a new blog with a friend. It’s really nice to have someone I can count on to share the load of posting, commenting, etc. My old blog was blogspot. The new one is WordPress. I LOVE WordPress! I learned alot from my first blogging experience that is helping me so much now. It is a journey! :) Your blog is adorable.

So true! I just started blogging about a month ago. I did it for work and so I knew to use WordPress and realized how much time it COULD take up. But other than that, I’m right with you! I think it depends on why you blog ($$, writing experience, friends). So far it’s fun and I’m really enjoying reading about how others are living their lives. Happy birthday (anniversary?) to you!
