15 Fabulous (and Free) WordPress Plugins

I read an excellent post by Kimberly Gauthier over at SITS girls. She talked about the 10 Best Free WordPress Plugins.

Her list was awesome. Some of the plugins she listed I had, the others, I ended up adding to my collection.

{Absolutely loving the Editorial Calendar}

At the end, she asked what plugins we like.
Here’s my list.

1. What Would Seth Godin Do
Seth allows me to have a customized greeting box at the top of each post that differs for new readers and returning visitors.

2. Supreme Google Webfonts
This plugin gives you 291 Google Webfonts into your visual editor panel when creating posts or pages, allowing you to become creative when posting.
Just don’t over do it! :)

3. And The Winner Is
Since I do giveaways, I love how easy this plugin makes picking a random winner, especially since I allow multiple comments and currently find Rafflecopter intimidating.

4. Askimet
I hate spam, but thankfully I don’t have to deal with much of it because Askimet takes care of the problem.

5. WP-Table Reloaded
Making grids or tables by hand is hard, and I don’t think you can in WP. {I know I couldn’t when I tried}, so I was happy to find this plugin that enables me to create and manage tables with No HTML knowledge needed.

What plugins have I missed? Which ones do you love?

I really need to look around for more valuable plug ins. I really like the one where a person can type in their twitter address, but I have no idea what it is called.
I really love askimet, I get soooo much spam I don’t know what I would do otherwise. Definitely a must have!
I will check out the others you mention for inspiration to jazzing up my site. ;)

Hi Carolyn, I hadn’t heard of the What Would Seth Godin Do plugin before (although I have heard of the man himself). I’m going to download it and see how it works on my blog as I can see it as a great way to get new subscribers while not being overly obtrusive for regular visitors.

My absolute favorite plugin is w3 total cache. I’m not sure how it does it exactly, but it always gives me the absolute best load times. If you set up a CDN for it (you can use amazon for a few dollars) you can cut your load times by like 90%. Pretty neat!

Great tips–will definitely check out the editorial catalog and the table plugin. Just last night I wanted to include a table in a post and gave up because it was midnight and my eyes were crossed! Thanks…
